‘A panel of 10 senior doctors of three private hospitals of Lahore were not in favour of taking Huma abroad (Singapore) keeping in view her serious condition,’ one of her physicians told Dawn on Monday. The physician said that after going under dental treatment in Karachi in September last, she developed throat infection and also had dry cough. She got the treatment and in the first week of October it was diagnosed that she had developed acute renal failure and her white cell count was increasing, he said. According to him, the other complications Huma developed during the period reportedly were severe infections of kidney with acute tubular necrosis, vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels), SIRS and pulmonary hypertension (high pressure of blood vessels of lungs). ‘She was improving clinically when Wasim Akram decided to shift her to Singapore for better treatment,’ the physician claimed and added that Akram told one of the doctors that he was under ‘immense pressure’ from his in-laws to get her treated abroad. Another doctor who examined Huma told this reporter that there was ‘some confusion’ in her diagnosis and this could be one of the reasons behind shifting her abroad. The air ambulance carrying her from Lahore to Singapore had to stop in Chennai when her condition worsened. Dr Munidar Rao of Apollo Hospital (Chennai) told a private channel on Monday that when Huma was brought to the hospital she was in septic shock leading to multiple organ failure and doctors could not save her. ‘I failed to understand as to why she was being shifted to Singapore in such a critical condition,’ he said. Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal Dr Javed Akram has also questioned the move saying that there was no particular surgery, procedure, or medicine which was available in Singapore and not in Lahore in the case of Ms Huma.

Rampage has gone off the deep edge before, but now he has pissed off the wrong person (again): Dana White. In a blog post titled “UFC looked like assholes“, Rampage tells of his embarrassment while watching the event with his A-Team co-stars. I was watching the fight this weekend with the director of the A Team movie, the movie crew & a couple of actors & I never been ashamed to be a part of MMA till now. The UFC looked like assholes this weekend. The main event was boring. I anticipated that because let’s be real.. Machida is a boring fighter. But Shogun getting robbed like that was pretty cut throat. Then you hear Joe Rogan say you “you have to beat the champ to be a champ.” & that made me think the UFC are full of shit! Not to be whiny here but I still don’t feel like I’ve been beat in the UFC.. but I’m not champ anymore. If the UFC gives Shogun an immediate rematch because of the controversial loss then that would validate everything I have said about the UFC in my recent posts & why I’m pissed at the UFC. But yet he deserves one & so have I deserved one against Forrest. One good thing came out of the fight last night. Rashad looked more like a bitch. If he would have just tried to fight Machida instead of just nutting up he probably could have done better. I saw every last one of Machida’s weaknesses this last weekend… Rampage goes on with a plea to UFC fans to go re-watch fights and find all the shady judges and then complain about them. I’d rather send my complaints about Rampage wussing out of the Rashad fight to go make a crappy B-movie. Sounds like someone doesn’t really want to fight anymore. He keeps ripping on Rashad after canceling the fight? Weak.

Yesterday it was being reported that Charles Barkley of, getting DUI’s on the way to meet hookers fame NBA on TNT fame, is making a public pitch for his services as a General Manager of an NBA franchise. In classic ‘Chuck’ fashion, Barkley knocks the NBA GM’s league wide in stating his case: “It’s time for me to be a general manager,’’ said Barkley, who has been at TNT for eight years. “I think everybody around me knows it’s time for me to take a different challenge. “I always want to keep going as a person. I love my job. I love the people I work with. But now it’s time for me to take on another challenge as a man. I need to grow as a person and it’s time for me. “And certainly I can do a better job than some of these guys have been doing.’’ I’m not sure if it’s a longing to be a General Manager or if it’s just another chance to compete with his longtime friend and rival Michael Jordan, as MJ is a co-owner and executive with the Charlotte Bobcats. Chuck says he wants to ‘grow as a person’, but personally I think the managing of a basketball team is best left to those that are equipped to handle the in’s and out’s of contract negotiations. Charles may be better suited to act as a scout or marketing representative for a ball club. Or maybe i’m just bitter that if CB gets a job as a GM he won’t have enough time to entertain us all at half-time and post-game as an analyst.

PHOENIX, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Phoenix Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes has agreed to sell the franchise to the National Hockey League. Moyes agreed to the sale during a hearing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Phoenix Monday. The deal needs the approval of Judge Redfield T. Baum. Bill Daly, NHL deputy commissioner, said it was hoped the sale could be completed in a week. Moyes filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May. Baum had rejected an offer by Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie to buy the team and move it to Canada. The NHL had said it wanted to acquire the Phoenix club and find a buyer who will keep it in Arizona. A statement from the league said: "It remains the NHL's intention upon taking control of the club to stabilize the club's operations and, as quickly as possible, to re-sell the club to a new owner who is committed to operating the club in the (Phoenix) market."

Tony La Russa was expected to return as the Cardinals' skipper, but he could have a new hitting coach in slugger Mark McGwire. According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, La Russa has signed a multi-year contract to return. But Hal McRae will not return as the Cardinals hitting coach and will be replaced by McGwire. "We're getting closer," La Russa told ESPN.com on Sunday. "But nothing has been decided yet. I can't tell you anything yet." La Russa's two-year, $8.5 million contract expires at the end of the month. McGwire, 46, has been out of baseball since 2001. In 16 seasons, he slugged 583 home runs, including what was then a single-season record 70 in 1998, and finished with a .263 career batting average. He has been repeatedly invited to serve as a Spring Training instructor for the Cardinals, but has declined. McGwire has worked with St. Louis' Skip Schumaker, among others, during the offseason. The Cardinals were expected to announce this week whether La Russa would return for his 15th season managing the team, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. La Russa told the newspaper he is "speeding toward a decision" on whether to return but had not discussed a contract with Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. However, the newspaper quotes "sources familiar with the situation" as saying a formal announcement that La Russa will return was expected early this week. La Russa has been in contact with Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak. With Mozeliak expected to talk with Cuban left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman on Monday in New York, the paper reported it's unlikely an announcement regarding La Russa would be made before Tuesday. In recent years, La Russa has operated under two-year contracts, which allowed him or the club to walk away from the deal. La Russa ranks third on the all-time managerial wins list with 2,552 victories, behind Connie Mack (3,731) and John McGraw (2,763). His 4,772 games managed with the White Sox, Athletics and Cardinals rank second

Rally driving is Ken Block’s passion, but what’s earned him YouTube immortality are his gymkhana videos and those jumps where he throws his Subaru Impreza WRX STI into the atmosphere with apparent recklessness. Of course, once Block is up in the air, he puts Sir Isaac Newton in the driver’s seat. “You have to be very calculating,” says the 41-year-old co-founder of DC Shoes. Currently, the essential element to Block’s calculations is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet developed by mathematically minded snowboarder Aaron Dettling. Relying on the fact that physics is scalable, Dettling’s program (originally developed for constructing snowboard jumps) uses the same basic formulas that determine the parabolic trajectory of an arrow shot from a bow or a shell shot from a cannon. “I start by converting the velocity of the projectile leaving the ramp in miles per hour to feet per second [Vt],” Dettling says. “Then I convert the velocity of the projectile into vertical velocity [Vv], horizontal velocity [Vh], and angle of the jump [A].” That works out to this: Vv = sin A (Vt) Vh = cos A (Vt) Next, those numbers can be used to calculate horizontal distance (X) or vertical distance (Y), in feet, at any point in the trajectory, using the gravitational constant (G) of 32.17 feet per second²: “These equations don’t look like what you find in college physics books—but they work,” says Dettling. “I replaced a lot of the symbols with conventional numbers and letters in an attempt to make it easier to grasp. It’s real easy to build a jump. To make it work and function correctly, is actually pretty difficult to do.” Block jumps his race cars, with the addition of about 150 pounds thrown into the trunk to offset the engine’s mass up front. But the launch angle for Block’s jumps is constantly evolving. While his launches used to be set at 18 degrees, he and D

Plummeting through the air off the top of a 421m tower is not everyone’s idea of fun, but for these base jumpers it was an experience of a lifetime. Some 98 of the extreme sports enthusiasts took part in the 2009 International Tower jump in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, today. The structure was built in 1995 for communication purposes and is currently the fifth tallest freestanding tower in the world.
